If you have the scores, either on Accuplacer, the Next Gen Accuplacer, ACT Aspire from 9th or 10th grade, or an ACT score, and would like to apply to take a College course in the spring through Virtual Arkansas/Arkansas Tech, come by and pick up a packet. Registration is open October 14 to Nov 11, 2020, but it would be good to get a jump on this process. There are several forms that I have to fill out as well, so the earlier the better.

Seniors,

I have two new scholarship opportunities. One is the American Legion Oratorical Contest. You will have to "speak clearly and intelligently" on the subject of the Constitution of the United States in order to be considered. This contest takes place on February 27, 2021. The deadline for returning the application is January 8, 2021. The second opportunity is the American Legion Coudret Trust and the Garner Trust Scholarship. You must be a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of an American Legionnaire. This application is due by March 12, 2021. Both Scholarship Applications are located in my outer office.

Any student interested in the military will have to take the ASVAB. Please click on this link for some ASVAB prep: https://www.vocabulary.com/lists/1154621

If any student in grades 9-12 are interested in Upward Bound, please contact Janice Wooten at jlwooten@hebersprings.asub.edu or see Mr. Tarver. Application packets are available in my outer office.

The United States Senate Youth Program was established in 1962 as a national nonpartisan initiative to provide an annual opportunity for talented high school students with demonstrated leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America’s political processes and strengthen their resolve to pursue careers in public service. Now in its fifty-ninth year, the USSYP annually brings the highest-level officials from each branch of government to meet with this outstanding group of young leaders—two high school juniors or seniors from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)— for an intensive week-long education and leadership program. In addition to the online program, students each receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship. The program is merit-based and highly competitive. The Washington Week online program is March 14-18, 2021, and delegates must attend the Washington Week online program to receive the financial scholarship. APPLICATIONS must be clearly POSTMARKED no later than December 4, 2020. If for some reason you cannot mail your application, please contact Melissa Starkey at (501) 682-6584 or Melissa.Starkey@Arkansas.gov for assistance.
